DC
Biography:
The Joker is a fictional supervillain created by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger, and Bob Kane, appearing in DC Comics publications. He debuted in Batman #1 (1940) and has since become one of the most iconic and recognizable villains in popular culture.
His origin story is often shrouded in mystery, with conflicting accounts provided within the comic books. The most commonly accepted narrative involves a failed comedian, sometimes named Jack Napier, who falls into a vat of chemical waste while attempting a robbery. This transforms his appearance, bleaching his skin white, staining his hair green, and stretching his lips into a permanent, macabre smile. This also drives him insane.
The Joker's personality is characterized by extreme violence, chaotic behavior, and a dark sense of humor. He is obsessed with Batman, seeing him as his ultimate adversary and often orchestrating elaborate schemes to torment him. He has no superpowers, relying instead on his cunning intellect, mastery of chemistry, and access to deadly gadgets and weapons. His motivations are often unclear, ranging from simple anarchy to a desire to prove that anyone can be driven to madness.
Considered Batman's archenemy, The Joker has been responsible for some of the greatest tragedies in the hero's life, including the crippling of Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) and the death of Robin (Jason Todd). His enduring popularity stems from his unpredictable nature and his role as a foil to Batman's order and justice.
